Duo Japanese head spa: a bonding experience like no other
Aurah customer, Amanda Boyce, shares her thoughts on the Aurah Duo Deluxe Japanese Head Spa.
How A blissful DUO HEAD SPA treatment AT AURAH turned into a shared memory we’ll never forget.
When was the last time you truly slowed down with a friend or loved one? In a world where plans often get rescheduled and time together is squeezed between errands and family responsibilities, sometimes the most meaningful moments come from simply choosing to unwind… together. That’s precisely what happened when my best friend and I decided to book a 90-minute long Duo Japanese head spa experience at Aurah Wellbeing Spa in Prestwick, just south of Glasgow.
We’d both heard whispers about the magic of head spas – those soothing scalp treatments that go far beyond your average shampoo. Rooted in traditional Japanese wellness philosophies and powered by advanced techniques, head spas are designed to stimulate circulation, relieve stress, promote hair health, and calm the nervous system.
But we didn’t just want solo self-care. We wanted to turn it into something shared.
Why a Japanese Head Spa?
Unlike a typical massage or facial, a Japanese head spa is a meditative experience. You lie back in the reclining chair while your scalp is expertly cleansed, massaged, and treated with nourishing oils and warm water. The treatment includes essential oils, relaxing scalp exfoliation, and neck massage.
It’s a multisensory experience, and something about sharing it with a friend makes it feel even more luxurious.

The BOUTIQUE Spa EXPERIENCE
From the moment we walked into the spa, everything slowed down. The calming scent of essential oils lingered in the air, the lighting was soft and warm, and Carly and Aleesha greeted us with quiet hospitality that made us feel immediately at ease.
Describing the spa as gorgeous would hardly do it justice; it is truly magnificent. Every element seems to have been designed to cultivate a sense of tranquillity. The blend of inviting decor, opulent finishes, and refined elegance creates a sense of retreat into an exquisite sanctuary.
We were led to the head spa room, where adjacent reclining beds awaited us in an elegant, darkened space, accompanied by soft instrumental music playing in the background. Carly explained the process, then stepped out of the room so we could get comfortable on the beds. Our therapists returned with the softest blankets I have ever felt, placed them gently over us, and soon began the treatment. Just before we nestled our heads onto the neck rests, we gave each other a quick smile, then closed our eyes and surrendered to the experience.
OUR TREATMENT: Duo deluxe plus K18 head spa FOR TWO guests
We booked the 90-minute Japanese head spa, which combines K18 repair and deep sensory relaxation. Here's a quick breakdown of what we experienced:
- An in-depth scalp analysis was carried out to customise each of our treatments.
- A comprehensive detox cleanse.
- Warm steam accompanied by a signature Halo Waterfall rinse.
- K18 professional products were massaged into our hair, followed by the application of a steam cap.
- Scalp massage.
- Sound therapy, incorporating tuning forks and Tibetan singing bowls, helped further promote relaxation.
- Gentle facial brushes were used to engage the senses.
- K18 hair oil was applied alongside a nourishing hair mask.
- We opted for the sleek blow-dry, which slightly increased the cost, but it was absolutely worthwhile.
The Unexpected Joy of Shared Silence
For the next 45 minutes, neither of us spoke. And it wasn’t awkward. In fact, it felt grounding to sit side by side in complete stillness, receiving care and calm from someone else’s hands. When it was over, we looked at each other, hair slightly damp and faces glowing, and just started laughing.
“Why did we wait so long to do this?” my friend said.
We left the spa feeling lighter, quieter, and somehow more connected, not just to ourselves, but to each other.

Why You Should Try A JAPANESE HEAD SPA With a Friend
A Japanese head spa is the perfect alternative to the usual catch-up over coffee or brunch, and is the perfect gift to each other – after all, what is more precious than sharing time together?
Why I recommend a shared Japanese Head Spa experience:
It’s intentional.
You’re both choosing to unplug, be present, and invest in your well-being.
It deepens connection.
Shared silence and relaxation can build intimacy in a way small talk never could.
It’s unique.
It’s not your typical spa treatment, which makes it a more memorable experience.
You’ll both feel amazing.
Think of it as a reset for your nervous system, together.
